THE STORY OF VENINI

THE STORY OF VENINI

The company I want to introduce today is an all-Italian excellence that has existed for many years and continues to surprise with the magic of its products.

Are you ready to dive into the magnificent world of glass? Here it is, dear readers, the history of Venini.
The history of Venini was born exactly 100 years ago, in 1921. So this year is a real event for them, a celebration of a long and successful history.

It was 1921 when the Milanese lawyer Paolo Venini and the Venetian antiquarian Giacomo Cappellin founded “Vetri Soffiati Cappellin Venini & C.”. The project immediately took off with great success, thanks above all to the new and unconventional concept of the two personalities. A third very important personality in the project is the Venetian artist Vittorio Zecchin, who immediately collaborated in the creation of the company’s first pieces.

The company was born on the island of Murano, near Venice, a place known for the majestic working of glass in many forms. Already in 1922 Venini stores opened in Venice and Paris.

In the following years, the company’s objects expanded to many international cities, and its success continued to grow. In 1931 Venini conquers Amsterdam.

In 1934 the collaboration with the great Carlo Scarpa begins, one of the many important names that will have something to do with the company. In 1938 Venini arrives in Scandinavia.

The early 1940s saw a brief slowdown in production due to the war, but already in 1946 another very important collaboration began: the one with Gio Ponti.

In the 50’s the company’s fame continues to grow, as well as the collaborations, more and more important and frequent: from Fulvio Bianconi to Franco Albini, from Tobia Scarpa to Ignazio Gardella, there are many names that pass through this reality.

Venini participates in many exhibitions, one above all the Venice Biennale, and creates objects for the interior decoration of many different buildings.

In 1986 Venini was purchased by the Gardini and Ferruzzi families.

And after many years of success and growth, here we are in the 90s: extensive collaborations with names such as Ettore Sottsass, Gae Aulenti, Alessandro Mendini, Mario Bellini, Cini Boeri and many others.

It was in 2001 when the company was purchased by Italian Luxury Industries, a prestigious Italian group of entrepreneurs Giancarlo and Gabriella Chimento and Giuliano and Guglielmo Tabacchi. The new ideals are novelty, experimentation and research.

In 2010 Venini opens its doors to new collaborations, from Matteo Thun to Gaetano Pesce, from Fabio Novembre to Studio Job.

And this year, in 2021, the company will be 100 years old. Best wishes Venini!
