41 Armchair “Paimio” by Alvar Aalto

Armchair designed by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto in 1932 for Artek.

It is a revolutionary interpretation of the club chair, combining light, organic and modern form.

In perfect Scandinavian style, the Paimio armchair is made of birch wood and is available in multiple colors. The seat is attached to the frame only in four points and the armrests are formed from one piece that is then split in half, to ensure perfect durability. The chair was designed for the Paimio Sanatorium, hence its name. A curiosity lies in the fact that Alvar Aalto worked on the project with his wife. Today the Paimio is exhibited in the permanent collection of the MoMA in New York.
