Chair designed by Verner Panton in 1959 and produced by Vitra.
One of the most classic icons of international design, with its simplicity has conquered the world.
Panton’s history was a bit troubled: the designer’s idea was rejected by many chair manufacturers because its shape was defined as “unsuitable” for its purpose. But Rolf Fehlbaum, son of Willi Fehlbaum who was the founder of Vitra, thought the project so interesting that he called a Vitra technician and asked if the chair could be made. The results were enthusiastic and the Panton saw the light of day. From that moment on, a great collaboration began between Verner Panton and the brand, and the name of the chair became famous all over the world. But without Rolf Fehlbaum, the Panton Chair would probably never have existed.
