Acrilica 281 by Joe Colombo

Acrilica 281 by Joe Colombo

Lamp designed by Joe Colombo in 1962 and produced by Oluce.

It is the first product made by Colombo for the company and, above all, the only object designed together with his brother Gianni.

Initially the model was only called “281”, it was later given the name “Acrilica”, referring to this material. Methacrylate was a material that had already been used for about ten years in the field of lighting, but here it finds a different use. The shape and the important thickness allow in fact that the light, positioned in the base, goes up towards the whole body and illuminates the lamp up to the top. A very particular and innovative use. With its delicacy and elegance, Acrilica 281 confirms itself as a true icon of Italian design and not only.
