Butterfly Stool by Sori Yanagi

Butterfly Stool by Sori Yanagi

Stool designed by Sori Yanagi in 1954 and produced by Vitra.

Its characteristic shape recalls the butterfly, as its name implies, and is an absolute ode to simplicity.

Everything included in this design is magic. The form, where it comes from, the meaning. Butterfly has western techniques, but an all-Japanese design sensibility. Its light and natural lines make it modern and special at the same time, giving it lightness and elegance and raising it to the level of a sculpture, rather than a simple piece of furniture. Within this project different techniques and thoughts are intertwined, which together make up its beauty. Butterfly Stool was refined and fascinating when it was born, just as it is today.
